FERGUSSON WELCOMES STENA COMMITMENT TO NORTH HARBOUR POINT DEVELOPMENT

Welcoming the announcement that STENA Ltd have taken the final decision to develop a new harbour in Loch Ryan based at North Harbour Point Galloway and Upper Nithsdale MSP Alex Fergusson said:-

“This is the news for which many of us have been waiting and I welcome it unreservedly, as it commits STENA to Loch Ryan for the foreseeable future and the company’s continued, and now guaranteed, presence in Wigtownshire is to be applauded. This news means that the redevelopment of Stranraer harbour and the waterfront can be brought right to the top of the agenda, and it affords the town an opportunity that it will never have again. If the correct decisions are made, Stranraer could be looking at a very bright future indeed. I commend STENA Ltd for this decision.

“However, this level of investment by a private company requires a response from the Scottish Government, and I will robustly support STENA’s continuing campaign to increase the rate of improvements to the A75 and the A77 by the Scottish Government which are vitally necessary to ensure that Loch Ryan remains the premier port to service both Northern Ireland and the Republic. Improvements are happening slowly, but a real message needs to come from Edinburgh that the road infrastructure in the South West of Scotland is recognised as being important to the future economic wellbeing of the area, and I look forward to playing my part in bringing that about.”
